BYD’s ultra-luxury brand, Yangwang, will unveil its electric supercar, the U9, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, marking the vehicle’s debut in an overseas market.
The U9 will be showcased at the prestigious motorsports festival, held in Goodwood, England, from July 11-14. Two U9s departed for the UK on May 7, beginning their journey to the event, according to Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang sales division, who shared the news on Weibo.
“We are very much looking forward to meeting supercar enthusiasts around the world at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July,” Hu stated.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, established in 1993, is renowned as the world’s most prestigious motorsports festival, attracting enthusiasts and industry players alike.
Nio was the only Chinese auto startup to participate in the 2023 event, showcasing its ET5 sedan.
BYD launched the Yangwang brand on January 5, 2023, targeting a price range around RMB 1 million. The U8 and U9 made their debut at the launch event.
The Yangwang U9, introduced on February 25, features a 2-seater design and a starting price of RMB 1.68 million ($232,500). It is built on the e⁴ technology platform, which will underpin all future models of the premium brand.
The U9 boasts four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW and a total peak power of 960 kW, delivering up to 1,306 Ps horsepower and 1,680 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.36 seconds, surpassing the performance of a 12-cylinder engine.
The U8, which went on sale in September last year, starts at RMB 1.098 million.
Measuring 4,966 mm in length, 2,029 mm in width, and 1,295 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, the U9 offers a blend of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology in the electric supercar segment.
