BYD has introduced its Shark super hybrid pickup to the Ecuadorian market, further expanding its presence in the global pickup segment.
Built on BYD’s DMO platform, the Shark combines electrification with off-road capability, featuring dual electric motors generating over 430 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 5.7 seconds.

The Shark’s battery system includes a 29.58 kWh Blade Battery, offering a total NEDC range of 840 kilometers, including 100 kilometers on electric power alone. The vehicle also boasts a low-charge fuel consumption of 7.5 L/100 km, improving efficiency by 40% compared to traditional pickups, according to BYD.

BYD reported that Shark exports surpassed 10,000 units in 2024, with December alone accounting for 3,410 units, bringing the full-year total to 11,038. “The Shark has demonstrated strong international demand, reinforcing our commitment to innovative new energy solutions in the pickup market,” the company stated on its Weibo account.

The pickup was first launched in Mexico in May 2024 and has since expanded to markets including Panama, Brazil, Cambodia, and Australia, where it is sold as the Shark 6. Media reports suggest production takes place in Zhengzhou, Henan province, though BYD has not disclosed the manufacturing location.
