BYD’s largest car carrier, the BYD Shenzhen, has arrived at the port of Itajaí in Brazil, transporting 7,300 new energy vehicles (NEVs). The arrival marks the completion of its maiden voyage, one month after departing from China.
The BYD Shenzhen, which set sail from Taicang, Jiangsu province, on April 27, is the fourth car carrier in the automaker’s fleet and the second with a 9,200-vehicle capacity. Measuring 219.9 meters in length with 16 decks and a beam of 37.7 meters, the vessel covers an area equivalent to 20 football fields.
The ship was officially delivered to BYD on April 22 in Yizheng, Jiangsu province. Its arrival in Brazil highlights the automaker’s continued investment in maritime logistics to support its international expansion. BYD has been scaling up its ocean transport fleet since 2024 to enhance NEV exports.
“BYD Shenzhen’s arrival marks another milestone in BYD’s globalization strategy,” the company said via its semi-official Weibo account @小迪快报.
BYD’s first vessel, BYD Explorer No. 1, a 7,000-vehicle carrier chartered from a third party, entered service in January 2024. Since then, BYD has added several purpose-built ships to its fleet, including BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, BYD Changsha, and BYD Xi’an, with an unnamed seventh vessel launched on May 20 by Guangzhou Shipyard International.
