Fang Cheng Bao, a sub-brand of Chinese automaker BYD, announced the recall of 6,843 Bao 5 plug-in hybrid vehicles due to safety concerns.
The affected units were manufactured between October 16, 2023, and February 1, 2024, according to a notice published on China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website.

The recall addresses improperly locked electrical connector bolts in the integrated dual-motor controller of certain vehicles, which could loosen over time.
This defect may cause arcing and, in extreme cases, lead to smoke or fire, posing a serious safety hazard. BYD will replace the dual-motor controller free of charge for all affected vehicles to resolve the issue, the notice said.
Launched in August 2023, Fang Cheng Bao is BYD’s premium off-road sub-brand. The Bao 5, its debut model, hit the market in November 2023, with deliveries beginning later that month.

The brand’s second model, the Bao 8 SUV, launched in November 2024, marked a milestone as BYD’s first vehicle equipped with Huawei’s driver-assistance technology.
Fang Cheng Bao has also announced a new Tai series lineup, with the first family-focused midsize SUV, the Tai 3, scheduled for release in the first half of 2025.
