Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant BYD has launched its upgraded e-Platform 3.0 Evo, alongside the debut of the first model based on the platform, the Sea Lion 07 EV, at a launch event.
The e-Platform 3.0 Evo features a 12-in-1 electric drive system, offering higher integration compared to the previous 8-in-1 system. It supports motors that spin up to 23,000 rpm, the highest speed currently in production according to BYD.
The Sea Lion 07 EV, the first model based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, is a pure electric SUV designed to compete with Tesla’s Model Y. It has a starting price of RMB 189,800 ($26,270) and is set to begin deliveries later this month.
The SUV is part of BYD’s new Ocean-array SUV model line, with the Sea Lion 07 EV being the inaugural model. It features a length of 4,830 mm, width of 1,925 mm, height of 1,620 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
Available in four options, including three single-motor rear-wheel-drive and one dual-motor four-wheel-drive option, the Sea Lion 07 EV offers varying levels of performance and range. The entry-level variant boasts a peak power of 170 kW and a peak torque of 380 Nm, with a CLTC range of 550 kilometers.
The mid-priced variants feature a more powerful single motor with 230 kW of peak power and 380 Nm of peak torque, providing a CLTC range of 610 kilometers. The highest priced version has dual motors with a combined peak power of 390 kW and peak torque of 690 Nm, achieving a 0 to 100 kmph acceleration in 4.2 seconds.
All variants of the Sea Lion 07 EV can be fast-charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 25 minutes, with an 18-minute charge time from 80 percent to 100 percent. Additionally, in extremely low temperatures, the EV can reduce charging time by up to 40 percent.
Equipped with advanced features such as the DiLink 100 cockpit system, DiPilot 100 driver assistance system, and the iTAC intelligent torque control system, the Sea Lion 07 EV aims to offer a compelling alternative in the competitive electric SUV market.
