BYD has unveiled the Atto 8, a seven-seat electric SUV featuring its second-generation Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology, at the Paris Motor Show. The model is scheduled to go on sale in Europe in the first quarter of 2027, with pricing yet to be announced.
The Atto 8 is the first BYD vehicle in Europe to feature the company’s second-generation battery and Flash Charging system. According to BYD, the charging technology can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in five minutes, or from 10% to 97% in nine minutes under its stated conditions.
At temperatures as low as -30°C, BYD says charging from 20% to 97% takes 12 minutes. These figures are manufacturer claims, and real-world charging times will depend on factors including battery temperature, charging infrastructure and operating conditions.
Battery Capacity and Driving Range
The Atto 8 is equipped with a 115 kWh BYD Blade Battery 2.0 and offers two all-electric powertrain configurations: rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
The Design RWD version uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 340 kW (456 hp) and 365 Nm of torque. BYD quotes a 0–62 mph acceleration time of eight seconds and a WLTP driving range of up to 405 miles.
The Excellence AWD adds a front electric motor, bringing combined output to 570 kW (764 hp) and 775 Nm of torque. This version accelerates from 0–62 mph in 4.6 seconds, with a quoted WLTP range of 374 miles.
The difference in range reflects the two configurations’ differing power and drivetrain specifications. Actual range will vary with driving speed, temperature, terrain and other conditions.
Dimensions and Seven-Seat Layout
The Atto 8 measures 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,760 mm tall, placing it in the full-size SUV category. Its three-row cabin is designed to accommodate seven occupants.
Luggage capacity reaches 270 litres with all three rows in use. Folding the second and third rows increases the available space to 1,960 litres. The vehicle also includes a 136-litre front storage compartment.
A panoramic glass roof measuring 2.39 square metres forms part of the cabin design. Both variants include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 26-inch head-up display and a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in.
The front seats and outer seats in the second row feature heating, ventilation and massage functions. Rear passengers have a separate air-conditioning control panel, and the seats are upholstered in genuine leather.
The Design RWD comes with a 10-speaker sound system. The Excellence AWD adds a 21-speaker DiSound audio system and a front refrigerator.
European Launch and Market Position
BYD plans to begin European sales of the Atto 8 in the first quarter of 2027. The company has not yet announced prices or a detailed country-by-country launch schedule.
In Europe, the Atto 8 will join the BYD Tang, another electric seven-seat SUV in the company’s lineup. Its final market positioning will become clearer once pricing and equipment details are confirmed.
The Atto 8’s main technical specifications include a battery capacity of 115 kWh, a maximum quoted WLTP range of 405 miles for the rear-wheel-drive version and a five-minute 10%–80% charging claim under BYD’s stated conditions. The vehicle’s performance and charging figures will require assessment under independent testing to establish how they compare with real-world use.
