Xpeng aims to sell 1 million vehicles annually worldwide by 2030, with Europe expected to account for approximately 500,000 units, Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said in an interview at the Paris Motor Show on Monday, according to Bloomberg’s October 12 report.
The target would require a substantial expansion of the Chinese automaker’s European business and manufacturing capacity. Xpeng is discussing increased production in Austria with contract manufacturing partner Magna International while exploring potential manufacturing arrangements elsewhere in Europe.
He identified production capacity as the company’s most significant bottleneck in the region, making local manufacturing expansion a key consideration as Xpeng works toward its 2030 objective.
Aiming for 1 Million Annual Sales
The global sales target comes after He outlined a different international growth objective earlier this year. In an internal letter dated February 24, he set a goal of reaching 1 million overseas sales annually by 2030, with overseas operations expected to contribute more than 70% of company profit.
The target disclosed at the Paris Motor Show places greater emphasis on Europe, which would represent half of Xpeng’s projected annual global sales. Bloomberg reported that achieving 500,000 annual sales in Europe would exceed Ford’s and Opel’s respective regional volumes in 2025. Ford delivered more than 426,000 vehicles in Europe that year, while Opel recorded approximately 400,000 registrations.
Xpeng entered Europe through Norway in 2020 and has since delivered more than 60,000 vehicles in the region. Most of those deliveries occurred in 2025 and 2026, according to the report.
Manufacturing Capacity to Support Growth
Xpeng began local vehicle production in Europe in September 2025 at Magna’s plant in Graz, Austria. The facility currently manufactures the G6 and G9 SUVs and the P7+ sedan.
On October 7, the flagship G9L SUV completed trial production at the plant, becoming the fourth Xpeng model to enter local production in Europe. The company has not announced when full-scale production of the G9L will begin.
Xpeng is seeking to develop a longer-term European business supported by local manufacturing rather than relying primarily on imports from China. It has pointed to Volkswagen’s investments in China as a reference for its approach. Volkswagen is also an Xpeng shareholder and technology partner.
The automaker has not disclosed the additional production capacity required to reach its target, identified other countries under consideration or confirmed any new investment commitments.
G9L Expands the European Portfolio
Xpeng launched the G9L in Europe on October 12, the opening day of the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The launch adds to its regional lineup as the company pursues its global sales ambitions.
Reaching 1 million annual vehicle sales by 2030 will depend on Xpeng’s ability to expand production, establish a broader market presence and generate sufficient demand across Europe and other international markets. The company has not provided a detailed breakdown of its projected sales by country or model.
