BYD has surpassed 130,000 cumulative new energy vehicle (NEV) deliveries in Thailand, underscoring the Chinese automaker’s continued expansion in one of its largest Southeast Asian markets.
The company celebrated the milestone in Bangkok on Sunday while introducing the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) to the Thai market.
Sealion 5 DM-i Marks Delivery Milestone
BYD said its 130,000th vehicle delivered in Thailand was a Sealion 5 DM-i, which features the company’s DM-i hybrid technology designed to combine fuel efficiency with extended driving range and improved performance.
The launch expands BYD’s DM-i lineup in Thailand as the automaker seeks to broaden its presence in the country’s growing electrified vehicle market.
The milestone also coincides with the continued ramp-up of BYD’s manufacturing operations at its Rayong production facility.
Local Manufacturing and Supply Chain Grow
Located at the WHA Industrial Estate in Rayong province, the factory is BYD’s first overseas passenger vehicle manufacturing plant. The facility, which began production in July 2024, has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
The plant currently manufactures the BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal 5 DM-i, Sealion 5 DM-i and Sealion 6 DM-i for the domestic market.
According to the company, all five models have received Made in Thailand certification from the Federation of Thai Industries, reflecting increased localization of manufacturing and component sourcing.
BYD said the Rayong facility has created more than 5,000 jobs over the past two years, with Thai employees accounting for approximately 93% of the workforce. The company added that locally sourced components now represent around half of the plant’s procurement.
General Manager Ke Yubin said BYD will continue expanding its local manufacturing capabilities and supply chain while investing in workforce development.
“BYD hopes these efforts will help promote Thailand as an ASEAN NEV hub.”
Thailand has become one of BYD’s most significant markets in the Asia-Pacific region since the company entered the country in 2022.
The Rayong plant also serves as an export base. In 2025, BYD began shipping locally manufactured Dolphin electric vehicles to Europe, including markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium, supporting the company’s broader international expansion strategy.
