BYD is set to launch the world’s fastest-charging blade battery for construction machinery at the Bauma China exhibition in Shanghai on November 26. This new battery, developed in collaboration with XCMG, a leading Chinese construction machinery manufacturer, aims to revolutionize the performance of heavy-duty equipment.

The battery, based on BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, is designed to support a high-voltage platform of 1500V and a maximum current of 400 amps. Available in sizes from 200 to 2500 kWh, it boasts a 7,000 charging cycle life, making it one of the most durable batteries in the market. Additionally, it can operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -35°C to 65°C and charge at a maximum power of 600 kW.

The battery integrates BYD’s innovative cell-to-body technology, which allows it to seamlessly fit into construction machinery, marking it as the world’s first blade battery specifically designed for this purpose. This development positions BYD as a key player in the growing electric construction machinery market.

The new blade battery is the result of a partnership between BYD’s subsidiary FinDreams and XCMG. The collaboration, which began in early 2023, led to the creation of Xuzhou XCMG Fodi Battery Technology Co., Ltd. in April of that year.

The first batteries from this partnership rolled off the production line in October 2023, paving the way for the release of this advanced new battery. While BYD is not the only company working with construction equipment makers, the company’s new offering is expected to give it a significant edge in the fast-evolving sector of electric construction machinery.
