BYD is preparing to launch the Sealion 06 SUV by the end of July, expanding its popular Sealion lineup with both battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, according to a report by local automotive outlet Auto Home.
The upcoming model will be based on BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology and the e-Platform 3.0 Evo electric vehicle architecture, both of which were introduced in May this year to deliver improved efficiency and integration. The Sealion 06 is expected to carry a price tag between RMB 160,000 ($22,280) and RMB 200,000.
Although BYD has not yet confirmed a launch date through its official channels, the vehicle appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory filings in April, detailing its technical specifications. The model measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm — slightly larger than the existing Sealion 05 EV.
The BEV variant will be offered in single-motor and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor model will have options for either 170 kW or 180 kW peak output, while the dual-motor version combines 110 kW front and 180 kW rear motors. Meanwhile, the PHEV version uses a 1.5-liter engine rated at 74 kW, paired with a 160 kW electric motor.
The Sealion 06 will join an increasingly diverse Sealion family, which includes the Sealion 05 EV, Sealion 05 DM-i, Sealion 07 EV, and Sealion 07 DM-i. The Sealion lineup contributed nearly 9% of BYD’s new energy vehicle sales in May, with 33,790 units sold. From January to May, the Sealion family recorded 99,313 deliveries.
