BYD has offered a first look at two new flagship electric vehicles, confirming plans to launch a high-end sedan and SUV as it seeks to strengthen its position in the premium EV segment.
The Chinese automaker said the models, named the Seal 08 sedan and Sealion 08 SUV, will debut in the first quarter of 2026. BYD confirmed the names on Monday alongside teaser images showing the silhouettes of both vehicles. Chinese media outlet CarNewsChina reported that both models will feature BYD’s latest technology and software systems.

Both vehicles are based on the Ocean S concept unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April and adopt BYD’s updated “Ocean Aesthetic 2.0” design language. They will join the company’s Ocean Series lineup, which includes the Seagull, Dolphin, Seal and Song Plus.
Pricing and detailed specifications have not yet been disclosed. Earlier filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed that a vehicle previously expected to carry the Seal 08 name was launched domestically as the Seal 06 EV. According to MIIT data, that model is similar in size to the Tesla Model 3 and offers CLTC-rated driving ranges of up to 545 km. The Seal 08 is expected to deliver higher performance and extended range.

Local outlet 163 reported that the Sealion 08 SUV could measure about 5,040 mm in length, making it slightly larger than the Sealion 07 and placing it in a size category comparable to the Tesla Model Y.
The launch comes as BYD continues to report strong sales volumes. The company sold more than 480,186 new energy vehicles in November, its best monthly performance of 2025, although overall growth has moderated this year.
