Chinese automaker BYD announced on Friday that its latest all-electric SUV, the Sealion 05 EV, will officially launch on March 25, further expanding its Ocean series. The company also shared new images of the vehicle, providing a closer look at the design and features of the upcoming model.
Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series sales division, revealed on Weibo that the Sealion 05 EV will be built on an all-new technology platform and will come equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye C” smart driving system as standard. The system is a DiPilot 100 solution, offering advanced assisted driving capabilities.

Additionally, the vehicle will feature the DiLink 100 smart cockpit, enhancing connectivity and user experience. Zhang also highlighted the SUV’s rear-drive architecture and a class-leading turning radius, which is expected to improve maneuverability.
BYD has been gradually unveiling details of the Sealion 05 EV, including a video posted on Weibo over the weekend showcasing aspects of its exterior design. Regulatory filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in December 2024 indicate that the electric SUV measures 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.

Compared to the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i, which was launched in September 2024, the new electric version is slightly smaller. The hybrid model measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,690/1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.
According to the MIIT filing, the Sealion 05 EV will be available in two variants, weighing 1,780 kg and 1,670 kg, respectively. Both versions will feature a single electric motor with peak power options of 140 kW and 160 kW and will support a top speed of 180 km/h.

The EV will also be offered with two battery pack configurations, one with a capacity of 50.048 kWh providing a driving range of 430 km and another with a 60.928 kWh battery offering a range of 520 km.
The upcoming launch marks BYD’s continued expansion in the electric SUV market as it seeks to strengthen its position against competitors in China’s rapidly growing EV sector. The Sealion 05 EV is expected to complement BYD’s existing Ocean series lineup, offering consumers a fully electric alternative to its hybrid counterpart while integrating the company’s latest advancements in smart driving and in-car technology.
