BYD has signed a framework agreement with Chinese car rental provider Car Inc for the supply of up to 100,000 vehicles, expanding cooperation between the two companies as demand for new energy vehicles grows in China’s mobility sector.
The agreement also includes plans to deploy BYD fast-charging stations at selected Car Inc rental locations across the country.
Car Inc, one of China’s largest vehicle rental operators, began electrifying its fleet in 2025 to align with the country’s accelerating adoption of new energy vehicles, according to reports from Chinese media outlet CnEVPost.
The new arrangement builds on an earlier collaboration between the companies. In 2025, Car Inc introduced 3,000 plug-in hybrid units of the BYD Qin Plus DM-i as part of an initial trial programme aimed at meeting rising demand for short-term rental vehicles.
Following the trial, the companies formalised a strategic partnership, with Car Inc adding 30,000 BYD vehicles to its fleet last year.
Financial terms of the new framework agreement were not disclosed, and the companies did not specify a timeline or minimum purchase commitments tied to the planned delivery volume.
BYD’s lineup includes both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, giving the rental company access to a range of vehicle categories and drivetrain configurations.
The partnership will also support charging infrastructure deployment at Car Inc locations using BYD’s Flash Charger technology. The company said the chargers are capable of charging compatible electric vehicles from 10% to 97% in approximately nine minutes using megawatt-level charging power.
The charging technology requires BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, introduced earlier this year alongside the Flash Charger platform. BYD previously announced that 10 vehicle models would support the new charging system.
The automaker said it plans to install around 20,000 Flash Charger stations across China this year as it expands its charging network.
The wider availability of rapid charging infrastructure could make electric vehicle rentals more practical for consumers by reducing charging times closer to conventional refuelling durations.
BYD also offers warranty coverage tailored for commercial fleet operators, covering components including the battery, electric motor and control systems for up to six years or 600,000 kilometres. The company said the programme is intended to reduce operational costs and ownership risks for high-mileage fleet customers.
