European electric vehicle charging operator Allego has announced plans to invest €100 million to deploy up to 1,400 ultra-rapid EV chargers across the United Kingdom by 2030, expanding charging infrastructure in major cities and along key transport routes.
The rollout will focus on high-traffic destinations and densely populated urban areas, with London identified as a priority market.
Retail Partnerships to Drive Expansion
Allego plans to partner with retailers, hospitality businesses and landowners under a model in which the company finances, builds, owns and operates the charging infrastructure.

Site owners will receive long-term lease payments while Allego assumes responsibility for installing, maintaining and operating the charging hubs.
The company has already adopted the approach in several European markets through partnerships with IKEA in Belgium, REWE in Germany and Burger King in France.
Long-Term Investment Backed by Meridiam
The UK expansion is supported by long-term infrastructure investor Meridiam, providing funding for the multi-year deployment programme.
Executive Officer Steven Salo said the investment reflects confidence in the UK’s accelerating transition to electric mobility.
“This €100 million commitment reflects our confidence in the UK EV market.”
“The UK is electrifying quickly, but to keep up with demand the charging network must expand at the same pace. There is a clear need for more reliable, ultra-fast charging infrastructure, particularly along motorways and around the capital.”
Supporting the UK’s EV Transition
Allego said expanding reliable ultra-fast charging infrastructure will be essential as electric vehicle adoption continues to increase across the UK.

The company also highlighted the importance of maintaining a stable and supportive policy environment to encourage continued private investment in charging infrastructure and support the long-term growth of the electric mobility sector.
The planned rollout is expected to strengthen charging availability for motorists while supporting the UK’s broader decarbonisation and transport electrification objectives.
