Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has outlined plans to expand its presence in Australia and New Zealand by introducing five vehicle models across both markets by the first quarter of 2027, while significantly growing its retail network in Australia.

The announcement forms part of the company’s broader international expansion strategy as it accelerates growth outside China.

Five-Model Portfolio by Early 2027

Speaking at Xpeng’s inaugural Australia Brand Day, Vice Chairman and President Brian Hongdi Gu said the company plans to offer the new G6, X9, L03, G9L and L05 in Australian showrooms by March 2027.

Xpeng will follow the same rollout schedule in New Zealand, according to local sales manager Sean Tupp.

The company recently introduced the updated G6 electric SUV and the X9 electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in both countries.

In Australia, the new G6 starts from AU$51,800, while the X9 is priced from AU$89,900. In New Zealand, the models are priced from NZ$59,990 and NZ$104,990 respectively.

New Models Expand Market Coverage

The L03, previously introduced in China as the Mona L03, is positioned below the G6 and will be available globally in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations.

Xpeng plans to launch the model in Australia and New Zealand during the fourth quarter of 2026 as part of a simultaneous rollout across 65 international markets.

The company also intends to introduce the larger G9L SUV in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Regulatory filings in China indicate the G9L will be offered in both battery-electric and extended-range variants. Measuring 5.12 metres in length with a 3.1-metre wheelbase, the SUV is significantly larger than the existing G9 and is expected to offer three-row seating, positioning it against models such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9.

Xpeng has already begun testing the G9L on Australian roads ahead of its local launch.

The L05, another SUV revealed through Chinese regulatory filings, will join the range during the first quarter of 2027.

The mid-size model measures 4.87 metres in length and will also be available in both battery-electric and extended-range versions.

Dealer Network Expansion

Alongside its expanding product portfolio, Xpeng plans to double its Australian retail network from 25 dealerships to 50 by the end of 2027.

The company expects the broader model range and expanded dealer footprint to strengthen its competitiveness in the rapidly growing electric vehicle markets of Australia and New Zealand, where consumer demand for battery-electric and electrified vehicles continues to increase.
