BYD sold 235,197 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in December. This marks the fourth consecutive month that BYD has sold more than 200,000 NEVs. These figures represent a 150.36% increase from the 93,945 units sold in the same month the previous year and a 2.07% increase from the 230,427 units sold in November.
BYD stopped producing and selling vehicles powered solely by internal combustion engines in March and now only sells NEVs, which includes both passenger and commercial vehicles. In December, BYD sold 234,598 passenger NEVs and 599 commercial NEVs. Of the passenger NEVs sold, 111,939 were battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 122,659 were plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
These figures show a 131.68% increase in BEV sales and a 175.60% increase in PHEV sales compared to the same month in the previous year.
In December, BYD experienced a decrease in overseas sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs), with 11,320 units sold compared to the 12,318 units sold in November, a decrease of 8.1%. This marks the first time that BYD has released overseas sales figures for NEVs, which were first announced in July.
Despite the decrease in overseas sales, BYD saw significant growth in overall NEV sales in the fourth quarter, with 683,440 units sold, representing a 156.74% increase year-over-year and a 26.87% increase from the third quarter. For the full year of 2022, BYD’s cumulative NEV sales reached 1,863,494 units, a 208.64% increase from the 603,783 units sold in the same period the previous year.
Among these sales, passenger battery electric vehicles (BEVs) made up a significant portion, with 911,140 units sold, accounting for 48.9% of BYD’s total NEV sales for the year and representing a 184.01% increase from the 320,810 units sold in the same period the previous year.
