BYD has produced its 150,000th commercial new energy vehicle (NEV), marking a milestone in the Chinese automaker’s commercial vehicle business as it increases its focus on electric trucks.

The milestone vehicle, a Q3 electric semi-truck, rolled off the production line at BYD’s truck plant in Huai’an, Jiangsu province, on 9 October 2026. The company said the achievement capped 18 years of development in commercial NEVs.

BYD Expands Into Long-Haul Electric Freight

BYD identified the Q3 as a key model in its expansion into long-haul transport and said it plans to increase investment in the heavy-duty truck market.

Long-distance freight operations require high power output, reliable performance and efficient charging, making these factors important to the adoption of electric trucks.

The Q3 features a commercial-vehicle Blade Battery, peak motor power of 600 kW and support for dual-gun fast charging. BYD said the technologies are designed to meet the demands of heavy-load transportation.

Commercial Vehicle Sales Continue to Grow

The production milestone comes as BYD’s commercial vehicle sales increase year-on-year, according to the company. The segment is becoming a greater focus as the automaker expands beyond passenger vehicles into electric freight and other commercial applications.

BYD’s planned investment in long-haul trucks signals its intention to strengthen its position in heavy-duty transport, where charging performance and vehicle reliability are central to commercial operations.
