Scania has unveiled a new generation of its Touring coach, introducing the company’s Super powertrain, revised aerodynamics and updated driver and passenger features. The model, first launched in 2009, is also prepared for Euro 7 emissions requirements, while a battery-electric version is planned as a future addition to the lineup.

Scania says the updated Super powertrains can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 8% to 10%, extend in-service lifespan by 25% and simplify maintenance. The manufacturer has not announced a launch date for the electric Touring.

Super Powertrain and Euro 7 Readiness

The new Touring incorporates Scania’s Super powertrain technology, with claimed improvements in fuel efficiency, emissions performance and service life. For operators running long-distance coach services, lower fuel consumption can help reduce operating expenses, while simplified maintenance may support vehicle availability.

The coach is also designed to meet Euro 7 requirements. This gives operators a combustion-powered option prepared for the next stage of European vehicle emissions regulation, alongside the longer-term prospect of an electric alternative.

Scania has not provided a detailed breakdown of the fuel-saving figures by operating conditions or vehicle configuration. Actual results will depend on factors such as routes, passenger loads and driving practices.

Revised Design Improves Driver Visibility

The latest Touring receives exterior and cabin changes intended to improve usability. Scania has moved the B-pillar 90 mm rearward, widening the driver’s field of view through a redesigned door and side window.

Digital camera mirrors are another addition to the model, replacing conventional mirror arrangements with camera-based visibility systems.

A central display brings together infotainment, navigation and reversing-camera functions. The system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to connect compatible smartphones.

Passenger Comfort and Luggage Capacity

Scania has also revised several features aimed at passenger comfort and luggage handling. The new Touring includes wider and deeper entrance steps, redesigned luggage racks and a larger luggage compartment.

Optional Kiel Avance X seats are available with USB-C charging connections, providing passengers with additional options for powering personal devices during journeys.

The updates build on the previous Touring’s position in the travel and coach market. Scania has highlighted demand from travel operators, particularly in the United Kingdom, as part of the model’s existing commercial presence.

Sundeep Kumar, Head of Portfolio Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania, said the new generation combines changes to the vehicle’s design with improvements to operating efficiency and passenger experience.

“The new generation Scania Touring is a significant improvement of what is already an advanced and highly appreciated coach. It combines the reliability and energy efficiency that customers expect from Scania with a much anticipated, new Scania-specific design as well as key upgrades in luggage capacity and for the driver and passenger experience.”

Battery-Electric Version Planned

Scania has confirmed that a battery-electric Touring is intended to join the range, but it has not provided a launch schedule or technical specifications for the planned variant.

For now, the updated combustion-powered coach remains the immediate focus, with the Super powertrain and Euro 7 readiness addressing fuel efficiency and emissions compliance. The electric version would extend the Touring range as Scania develops additional options for passenger transport operators.

The absence of a confirmed electric launch date leaves its battery capacity, driving range, charging performance and intended operating applications undisclosed. These details will be important in determining how the future model fits into long-distance coach services, where daily mileage, passenger capacity and charging access influence vehicle selection.
