BYD has announced UK pricing and opened orders for the Shark, the company’s first pickup truck, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.

The plug-in hybrid pickup is priced from £47,290 including VAT and will be offered in a single specification for the UK market.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Delivers 436 PS

The Shark is powered by BYD’s Super Hybrid Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) system, which combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with dual electric motors.

The powertrain produces a combined output of 436 PS and 650 Nm of torque, enabling the pickup to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds.

Energy is supplied by a 32.2-kWh Blade Battery based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

According to BYD, the Shark offers a WLTP electric-only driving range of 55.9 miles and a combined driving range of up to 419 miles with a fully charged battery and full fuel tank.

The automaker also quotes weighted fuel consumption of 80.7 mpg.

Utility Features Target Commercial and Lifestyle Users

The five-seat double-cab pickup measures 5,457 mm in length and rides on a 3,260-mm wheelbase.

The Shark has a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kilograms and a payload rating of 790 kilograms.

The vehicle also includes a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system capable of supplying up to 6.6 kW of external power through two outlets, one integrated into the charging port and another located in the cargo bed.

Standard equipment includes a rotating 15.6-inch infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-speaker Dynaudio audio system.

BYD Targets Growing European Market

Stella Li, Executive Vice-President of BYD, said the company developed the Shark to combine electric driving capability with the versatility expected from a pickup.

“The Shark was designed to bring pure-electric capability, the most power in the class, excellent off-road capability, outstanding efficiency and long-distance flexibility.”

She added that demand for plug-in hybrid pickup trucks is increasing across Europe.

“The plug-in hybrid pickup segment is expanding rapidly.”

The Shark marks BYD’s entry into the European pickup market as the company continues to broaden its vehicle lineup beyond passenger cars.
