BYD has filed a next-generation version of its Seagull battery-electric vehicle with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), completing a key regulatory step ahead of the model’s launch in the domestic market.

The filing, published in the ministry’s latest catalog of new vehicle models on July 10, includes two battery-electric variants of the Seagull.

Larger Dimensions and More Powerful Motor

According to the filing, both versions measure 4,205 millimeters in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. Both are configured with five seats.

Compared with the current Seagull, the new model is 425 mm longer and features a wheelbase extended by 150 mm.

Its overall dimensions bring it closer to the BYD Dolphin, which measures 4,280 mm in length.

The updated Seagull also adopts a redesigned exterior featuring a revised front fascia with slimmer polygon-shaped headlights, semi-hidden door handles and new rear lighting connected by a central BYD badge.

Both variants are powered by a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor manufactured by BYD, producing a maximum output of 95 kilowatts. That compares with 55 kW in the current model.

The two vehicles are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and have a listed top speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

Higher Trim Adds Expanded Driver-Assistance Hardware

The two versions differ primarily in curb weight and sensor configuration.

The entry-level model has a curb weight of 1,180 kilograms, while the higher-specification version weighs 1,255 kilograms.

According to the regulatory documents, the higher-grade variant can be equipped with additional sensors including LiDAR, front, rear and side radar systems, indicating support for more advanced driver-assistance functions.

BYD introduced LiDAR technology to the Seagull lineup earlier this year with the 2026 model, making it one of the first vehicles in China’s A00-class mini electric vehicle segment to offer the technology.

The LiDAR-equipped version of the current Seagull is available with BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driving system, which supports urban navigation-assisted driving.

Vehicles included in MIIT’s public filing process typically move closer to commercial launch after completing regulatory approval, although BYD has not announced a launch date for the new-generation Seagull.
