China’s BYD has launched its Seal 6 DM-i hybrid sedan and Seal 6 DM-i Touring wagon in Europe, further expanding its presence in the region’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
The two models, known in China as the Seal 06 DM-i, were introduced to European buyers on Sept. 2, BYD said on Friday. The move follows earlier rollouts of the Seal U DM-i, marketed in China as the Song Plus DM-i, as well as the Seal 05 DM-i sedan in Poland and Slovakia in June.
“The success of the Seal U DM-i demonstrates that hybrid technology allows users to enjoy the fun of electric driving while eliminating range anxiety,” said Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice president. “The Seal 6 DM-i and Seal 6 DM-i Touring will continue to leverage this advantage to meet the diverse mobility needs of European users.”
The Seal 6 DM-i has an electric-only range of up to 105 km and a combined range exceeding 1,500 km when fully fueled and charged. The Touring variant provides up to 1,535 liters of cargo capacity with rear seats folded, which BYD said offers “a spacious experience surpassing its sedan peers.”
The Seal 06 DM-i series debuted in China in May with a starting price of 99,800 yuan ($13,983), with the wagon variant launched in July from 109,800 yuan. BYD, which formally entered Europe in 2022, has since established itself as one of the region’s leading NEV brands.
