BYD has expanded its presence in the Middle East with the launch of its Seal 07 DM-i hybrid sedan, renamed Seal 7 DM-i for the Gulf region. The vehicle became available in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman in May, with Bahrain set to follow shortly, the company announced on Tuesday.
This launch marks BYDâs continued push in the Gulf markets, where it currently offers seven models, including three plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and four battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The company signaled plans to introduce additional models in the region in the near future.
The Seal 07 DM-i, which debuted in China in August 2024, incorporates BYDâs fifth-generation DM hybrid technology. It is notable as the first mid-to-large-size sedan to feature this advanced hybrid system. The sedan measures 4,980 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
In China, the Seal 07 DM-i is offered in five variants, with prices starting at 139,800 yuan ($19,460) and ranging up to 195,800 yuan. The vehicle has received positive market reception as BYD continues to capitalize on rising demand for electrified vehicles globally.
BYD reported robust sales figures for May, with total vehicle sales reaching 382,476 units, representing a 15.27 percent increase year-on-year and a modest 0.63 percent rise month-on-month. Overseas sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) were particularly strong, hitting 89,047 units in May. This marks the sixth consecutive month of record-breaking overseas sales, with a staggering 137.46 percent year-on-year increase and a 12.60 percent rise compared to April.
