BYD has introduced the Qin L EV to the Malaysian market, rebranded locally as the Seal 6 EV, marking the sedan’s first overseas debut. The launch on September 26 makes it the company’s seventh model offered in Malaysia, underscoring its growing international footprint.
The Seal 6 EV is available in Dynamic and Premium trims, priced from 100,000 Malaysian Ringgit ($23,740) and 115,800 Malaysian Ringgit, respectively. The Dynamic variant is powered by a 95 kW motor delivering 220 Nm of torque, reaching 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The Premium trim features a 160 kW motor with a quicker 7.5-second acceleration to 100 km/h. Both versions come with a 56.64-kWh battery pack providing an NEDC range of 485 kilometers.
First launched in China in March, the Qin L EV measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. The Malaysia version maintains the same dimensions except for a slightly lower height of 1,860 mm. The car was subject to a price cut and new variant release in China in August to help BYD maintain competitiveness in a crowded domestic EV market.
The Qin family is one of BYD’s top-selling product lines, with 732,252 units delivered in 2024, contributing 17.14 percent of the company’s annual NEV sales, according to CnEVPost data. In August alone, Qin models recorded 62,561 sales, maintaining their lead as BYD’s best-selling lineup despite an 11.21 percent year-on-year decline. The figures represented a 16.05 percent increase from July.
BYD sold 373,626 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in August, up 0.15 percent year-on-year and 8.52 percent month-on-month. Overseas sales reached 80,813 units during the same period, rising 156.95 percent year-on-year. From January through August, BYD exported 625,816 NEVs, an increase of 136.27 percent compared with a year earlier, highlighting its accelerating global expansion.
