BYD has launched its first electric vehicles under the Danza name in Indonesia, introducing updated versions of the D9 MPV and Z9 GT shooting brake following a local renaming of its premium brand. The company also plans to deploy 100 Flash Chargers across the country by December 2026.
The brand name change follows a trademark dispute in Indonesia involving the Denza name. Both newly launched models are available locally only in fully electric configurations, although BYD offers plug-in hybrid versions in other markets.
The D9 and Z9 GT feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, which uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. The company says both vehicles can charge from 10% to 97% in approximately nine minutes using its Flash Charging technology.
Danza D9 Gains Larger Battery and Longer Range
The updated Danza D9 is equipped with a 115 kWh second-generation Blade Battery, an increase of around 11% over the previous model’s 103.36 kWh pack.
Its front-mounted electric motor produces 340 kW, up 110 kW from the previous version. BYD lists the new model’s driving range at 730 kilometres under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), an improvement of 110 kilometres.
During a live demonstration for journalists in Jakarta, the D9 charged from 10% to 70% state of charge in five minutes and 48 seconds. Reaching 97% took a total of nine minutes and 43 seconds.
The updated electric MPV, equipped with Flash Charging support, is priced at IDR 1.08 billion, approximately €53,200, on the road in Jakarta.
Danza Z9 GT Delivers 850 kW
The all-electric Danza Z9 GT uses a three-motor powertrain comprising one motor at the front and two at the rear. The system produces a combined 850 kW and 1,210 Nm of torque.
BYD claims the shooting brake can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. Its 122.49 kWh Blade Battery provides a stated NEDC range of 701 kilometres.
The Z9 GT is priced at IDR 2.25 billion, equivalent to approximately €110,800, on the road in Jakarta.
Both models’ published ranges use the NEDC testing cycle, so actual driving range will vary with driving conditions, speed, temperature and vehicle use.
BYD Targets 100 Flash Chargers Across Indonesia
Alongside the vehicle launches, BYD announced plans to establish 100 Flash Chargers in Indonesia by the end of December 2026.
Ubaedilah, head of Flash Charging at BYD Motor Indonesia, said the first 10 chargers would be installed at Danza dealerships. The company has already installed its first unit at the Danza Bipo Gatot Subroto dealership in Jakarta.
The T-shaped pulley chargers feature two dispensers and are rated to deliver up to 1,500 kW. Actual charging power received by a vehicle will depend on its charging capability, battery condition and other operating factors.
Richard Li, Flash Charging director at BYD’s Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, announced the target of deploying 100 units nationwide by the end of the year.
Charging Network to Be Accessible Through Multiple Apps
Drivers will be able to locate Flash Charging stations through the apps of participating charge point operators, including Utomo Charge+, iGreen+ and Arista Power. BYD also plans to provide access through a dedicated Flash Charging application.
The planned network expansion is intended to support the introduction of the new Danza EVs and broaden access to BYD’s high-power charging technology in Indonesia.
The deployment target marks a significant infrastructure commitment for the brand, although the availability of charging locations and the speed achieved at each site will depend on the rollout schedule and compatibility with individual vehicles.
