Chinese automaker BYD on Tuesday launched the 2026 Sealion 06 DM-i, continuing the rollout of updated plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models in China as competition in the domestic auto market intensifies.

The compact hybrid sport utility vehicle is available in four variants, with prices ranging from 129,900 yuan ($19,140) to 159,900 yuan.

BYD said the new Sealion 06 DM-i includes upgrades in powertrain performance, electric driving range and intelligent driving technologies.

The model uses BYD’s fifth-generation Dual Mode (DM) hybrid system in a front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration. The drive motor produces a maximum output of 175 kilowatts, compared with 160 kilowatts in the previous version.

The vehicle is equipped with a 38-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery pack and offers a CLTC-rated pure electric driving range of up to 310 kilometres, the company said.

According to BYD, fuel consumption under depleted battery conditions is 3.3 litres per 100 kilometres under NEDC testing standards. With a full battery and fuel tank, the vehicle has a combined driving range of up to 1,845 kilometres.

The company is also introducing additional intelligent driving features to the model lineup. Buyers can optionally equip the vehicle with BYD’s LiDAR-based God’s Eye B assisted driving system for an additional 12,000 yuan.

The system combines LiDAR and other sensors to support functions including city and highway navigation-assisted driving.

Inside the cabin, the SUV includes a 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen integrated with the Amap navigation platform. Additional comfort features include front-seat massage functions, a powered front passenger leg rest and a newly added smart fragrance system.

BYD said the Sealion 06 DM-i also comes standard with the DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system, which includes road-preview functionality capable of actively adjusting suspension damping conditions.

The model additionally introduces an anti-motion sickness mode intended to reduce passenger discomfort during travel.

In terms of safety, the SUV includes a high-speed tire blowout stabilization system. BYD said the system can respond within milliseconds to maintain vehicle stability in the event of a tire failure at speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour.

The launch forms part of BYD’s broader effort to refresh both its hybrid and battery-electric vehicle lineups. The company is also scheduled to launch the Song Ultra DM-i hybrid SUV on May 28.

BYD said it will hold an intelligence strategy conference on the same day, where the company is expected to outline additional developments related to smart driving technologies.
