Chinese automaker BYD has introduced the 2026 Seal 05 DM-i, a refreshed version of one of its key hybrid sedan models, featuring an extended driving range and updated specifications.

The new Seal 05 DM-i is offered in a single trim level starting at RMB 79,800 ($11,180), maintaining the same entry price as the previous model, which was available in three trims.

Measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm, the updated model is built on BYD’s fifth-generation Dual Mode (DM) hybrid technology. It combines a 1.5-liter engine delivering 74 kW with an electric motor producing a peak output of 120 kW.

The 2026 Seal 05 DM-i offers a pure electric range of 128 kilometers — an improvement over its predecessor’s 55-120 km range — and a combined driving range exceeding 2,000 kilometers when both the battery and fuel tank are fully charged.

The first model in the Seal series, the all-electric Seal sedan, was launched in July 2022 as a rival to Tesla’s Model 3. Since then, the Seal family has become an increasingly important contributor to BYD’s expanding sales portfolio.
