BYD introduced the upgraded Tang L SUV — marketed overseas as the Atto 8 or Sealion 8 — at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, unveiling six variants priced between 214,800 yuan (about 30,250 USD) and 274,800 yuan (around 38,620 USD) after subsidies. The model features both plug-in hybrid and fully electric options, according to industry outlet Y-Auto. The publication quoted BYD as saying the vehicle “combines cutting-edge electrification technology with a refined, culturally inspired design.”
The refreshed Tang L continues BYD’s Dragon Face design language, updating its front “dragon whiskers” for a more fluid appearance. The D-pillar has been reshaped to improve natural lighting and visibility for third-row passengers. A roof-mounted lidar unit supports the brand’s next-generation intelligent-driving functions. At the rear, BYD introduced two taillight styles drawing from traditional motifs: the “Phoenix Wing,” shaped to resemble layered feathers, and the “Bamboo Craft,” which echoes the look of woven bamboo patterns.
Inside, the Tang L adopts a palace-themed design with three-dimensional layered surfaces and bamboo-wood trim. The dashboard features sharp, sculpted contours intended to create depth and a more sophisticated cabin atmosphere. All variants come standard with the God’s Eye B laser-based DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system, which supports high-level navigation and automated functions.
The plug-in hybrid version uses BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology paired with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 115 kW. Two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive options are offered, with electric motors generating up to 200 kW per axle. The hybrid accelerates from 0–100 km/h in about 4.3 seconds and delivers a CLTC electric-only range of 175–215 km, depending on the configuration.
Fully electric variants include both single- and dual-motor setups. The dual-motor version provides outputs of 230 kW at the front and 580 kW at the rear, achieving 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. All EVs use a 100.531 kWh second-generation lithium-iron-phosphate blade battery, with CLTC ranges of 560 km, 600 km and 670 km. BYD’s Super e platform with full-domain kilovolt architecture supports peak charging power of up to 1,000 kW, which the company says can add roughly 370 km of range in five minutes.
The launch also highlighted updated cabin software, including the DiLink 150 interface featuring adaptive brightness, seasonal themes and three animated mascot characters. The SUV’s expanded intelligent-driving features now include “parking-spot to parking-spot” autonomous navigation, allowing the vehicle to leave a parking space, navigate obstacles and park at a predetermined location without driver input.
