BYD has officially entered the Estonian passenger car market, marking a significant step in its ongoing European expansion. On December 11, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker opened its first two stores in Estonia, located in the capital city of Tallinn and the country’s second-largest city, Tartu. This expansion was made possible through a partnership with international dealership group Inchcape Motors.

The company introduced four of its key models to the Estonian market: the BYD Seal, Song Plus EV, Song Plus DM-i, and Dolphin, with pre-sales also kicking off on the same day. In Estonia, the Song Plus EV is marketed under the name Seal U, while the Song Plus DM-i is sold as the Seal U DM-i. In certain other international markets, including Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, the Song Plus DM-i carries the name Sealion 6.

BYD plans to begin delivering its vehicles to customers in Estonia in early 2025, further solidifying its presence in the European market. The company is actively working with local partners, such as Inchcape Motors, to meet the growing demand for green mobility solutions. Michael Shu, BYD’s European managing director, emphasized that the company is committed to expanding its business in Europe with a focus on providing sustainable, high-quality vehicles to local consumers.

In terms of recent performance, BYD reported a strong year-on-year increase in NEV sales, with 506,804 units sold in November, a 67.87 percent rise compared to the same month last year. Of this total, 504,003 were passenger NEVs, and 2,801 were commercial NEVs. The company’s international sales also saw a slight increase, with 30,977 NEVs sold overseas in November, up 1.14 percent from a year earlier. Since officially entering the European passenger car market in late 2022, BYD has launched eight NEV models in over 20 European countries.
