Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has expanded its presence in Chile with the launch of the Song Pro DM-i hybrid SUV, marking its tenth model in the South American market. The vehicle was unveiled during the third Experience E event held from November 7 to 10.
The Song Pro DM-i is priced from 31,990,000 Chilean pesos ($32,690) and offers three color options. Equipped with BYD’s super hybrid system, it boasts an NEDC electric-only range of up to 100 kilometers and a combined WLTC range of 1,011 kilometers. The compact SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.9 seconds and features the DiPilot intelligent driver assistance system.
BYD also introduced the Shark hybrid pickup truck during the event, which debuted in Mexico earlier this year. The Shark, set for Chilean market entry in the first quarter of 2025, offers a combined NEDC range of 840 kilometers and an electric-only range of 100 kilometers. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.7 seconds.
“BYD is committed to bringing advanced NEV technology to Chile, providing sustainable and innovative mobility solutions,” said Cristián Garcés, brand manager of Astara Group, BYD’s local dealer.
In addition to the Song Pro DM-i and Shark, BYD showcased other models including the Song Plus DM-i and the Yuan Up, the latter of which launched in Chile in August. BYD continues to see robust global sales, reporting 502,657 NEVs sold in October, a 66.53% year-on-year increase, with 31,192 units sold in overseas markets during the month.
