BYD Mexico has successfully delivered the largest single shipment of electric buses to Mexico City Metrobús, consisting of 20 units. This marks a significant milestone for the manufacturer in its efforts to contribute to sustainable public transportation.
The electric buses, measuring 15 meters in length, boast a range of 200 kilometers, as stated by BYD, with Mexico City Metrobús citing an even greater range of 246 kilometers. The buses are equipped with a 300 kWh battery that can be charged in as little as three hours, offering a practical solution for efficient operations.

Accommodating up to 130 passengers, the buses prioritize accessibility with barrier-free facilities and equipment, catering especially to individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the suspension height has been lowered to enhance comfort for passengers with special needs.
All 55 electric buses are designated for Line 4 in Mexico City, covering a distance of 35 kilometers and serving 40 stations from Pantitlán and Alameda Oriente to Hidalgo. This line is a vital part of the city’s public transportation network, catering to approximately 120,000 passengers on a daily basis, according to BYD.

Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of Mexico City Metrobús, emphasized the importance of embracing zero-emission and sustainable solutions in transportation operations. The partnership with BYD is regarded as a pivotal step in aligning with the electrification trend in Mexico’s public transportation system, initiated in 2018.
The total order from Mexico City Metrobús comprises 55 BYD buses. According to Escorcia, 18 units have already arrived, while the remaining 17 are en route from China to complete the fleet of 55 electric buses.
