BYD has achieved a significant milestone as cumulative sales of its Yuan family models have exceeded 1 million units, further solidifying its position in the rapidly expanding new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
The announcement of this achievement was made by BYD yesterday, highlighting the Yuan family’s success as the latest addition to BYD’s model lineup to reach this impressive milestone. Previously, both the Song family and the Qin family had also achieved this milestone, underscoring BYD’s prowess in the NEV segment.
The Yuan family, which includes the Yuan Up, Yuan Plus, and Yuan Pro, represents a range of SUVs that form a key part of BYD’s Dynasty lineup. This lineup complements BYD’s other model series, the Ocean, showcasing the brand’s diverse portfolio catering to various market segments.
The Yuan Up, introduced on March 26 this year, offers three variants with competitive starting prices ranging from RMB 96,800 to RMB 119,800 ($13,340 to $16,510). Meanwhile, the Yuan Plus, launched in February 2022, marks BYD’s foray into the global market, available under the Atto 3 name in several overseas markets. The Yuan Plus Glory Edition, introduced on March 4, is offered in four variants with starting prices from RMB 119,800 to RMB 147,800.
The current iteration of the Yuan Pro, the 2023 model, was released on May 31 last year, featuring starting prices ranging from RMB 95,800 to RMB 113,800.
The Yuan family has been a key driver of BYD’s sales success, with 428,580 vehicles sold in 2023, contributing 14.17 percent of BYD’s annual sales. In the January-May period of this year, the Yuan family models sold 134,392 vehicles, accounting for 10.57 percent of BYD’s sales during the same period.
BYD, which entered the automotive industry in 2003 and sold its first NEV in 2008, has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable mobility by ceasing production and sales of vehicles powered solely by internal combustion engines in March 2022. Instead, the company has shifted its focus to the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Last month, BYD continued its strong performance in the NEV market, selling 331,817 units, edging closer to its all-time record high of 341,043 units achieved last December. This consistent growth underscores BYD’s position as a leader in the global NEV market, driving innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
