BYD’s plant in Uzbekistan has commenced production with the rollout of its first vehicles, including the BYD Song Plus DM-i Champion Edition, as announced by the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer on Weibo.

The inaugural production event, attended by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu, took place at the plant located in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region.

The Song Plus DM-i, part of BYD’s popular Ocean series and based on the e-Platform 3.0, is currently a sought-after model in China, priced between RMB 129,800 and RMB 169,800.

BYD also formalized a green transportation cooperation initiative with Uzbekistan’s government, underscoring its commitment to sustainable mobility. According to Wang, the initiative aims to accelerate the local transportation sector’s shift towards green technologies.

“In the future, BYD will promote the development of the NEV industry in Central Asia with innovative technologies,” Wang emphasized.

BYD’s partnership with Uzbek automaker Uzavtosanoat JSC (UzAuto), established through a joint venture agreement announced in December 2022, precedes the plant’s operational launch. UzAuto, founded in 1994 and holding a dominant position in Uzbekistan’s automotive market, facilitates BYD’s entry into the region.

The initial phase of the plant targets an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, focusing on plug-in hybrid models such as the Song Plus DM-i Champion Edition and the Chazor DM-i (known as Chaser 05 in China). This strategic move aims to meet rising demand in Central Asia, enhancing BYD’s market presence beyond its established export activities.
