BYD has introduced long-range plug-in hybrid variants for two models in its Ocean lineup’s Seal sedan series, extending its push to offer larger battery options across its mass-market portfolio.
The Chinese automaker said the Seal 05 DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedans have both received new versions delivering a CLTC-rated electric-only range of 210 kilometres. The update follows a similar expansion announced earlier this week for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, where long-range variants were added to the Qin series.

The new long-range Seal models are equipped with 25.28-kilowatt-hour blade batteries, roughly doubling the battery capacity of comparable versions, BYD said. The company said the larger batteries are aimed at users who rely heavily on electric driving for daily use.

The Seal 05 DM-i is now offered in three variants: one with a 128-kilometre CLTC electric range starting at RMB 79,800 ($11,430), and two long-range versions with a 210-kilometre range priced from RMB 89,800 and RMB 99,800. The 2026 Seal 05 DM-i was launched in October 2025 and previously only offered the shorter-range configuration.
The Seal 06 DM-i has expanded to four variants. Two retain the 128-kilometre electric range, starting at RMB 92,800 and RMB 102,800, while two new long-range versions with a 210-kilometre range are priced from RMB 112,800 and RMB 122,800. The model was first introduced in May 2024 with only 128-kilometre variants.

The Seal series forms BYD’s core sedan offering within its Ocean lineup, which also includes models such as the Seal 07 DM-i, Seal 06 DM-i Touring, Seal 06 EV and Seal 06 GT. The series remains one of BYD’s strongest sellers, with sales reaching 44,602 units in December.
BYD has been steadily expanding long-range PHEV options as competition intensifies in China’s hybrid market and consumer demand shifts toward models capable of covering most daily driving on electric power alone.
