Buick has taken the automotive world by surprise with the official introduction of its cutting-edge electric sedan, the Velite 6. Unveiled on Friday through the automaker’s Weibo page, the Velite 6 boasts remarkable attributes including an exceptional driving range and an unexpectedly affordable starting price.
The Velite 6 is available in two distinct editions: the Comfort edition and the Premium edition, priced at 112,800 yuan ($15,500) and 115,800 yuan ($15,900) respectively. Underneath its sleek design, both variants are propelled by a single 130 kW (174 hp) front electric motor, delivering a maximum torque of 265 Nm. This power is harnessed from a 50.3 kWh LFP battery pack, enabling the Velite 6 to achieve an impressive range of up to 430 km (267 mi) according to the CLTC standard. Furthermore, the sedan features a rapid charging capability, allowing it to charge from 30% to 80% within just 30 minutes.
Inside the Velite 6, Buick has seamlessly combined elegance with innovation. The interior showcases Buick’s signature cockpit layout, highlighted by a 10-inch LCD instrument panel and a high-definition 10-inch touch screen. The integration of Gaode navigation, speech recognition, smartphone mapping, and OnStar further elevates the driving experience. The interior design, adorned with a tasteful blue and black inlay, incorporates perforated leather seats for a touch of luxury.
While the Comfort and Premium editions of the Velite 6 share similar mechanical specifications, the Premium version distinguishes itself with additional features. These include a panoramic sunroof, an electric sunshade, and a reversing camera, enhancing both comfort and convenience for the driver and passengers.
Measuring at 4,673 mm in length, 1,817 mm in width, and 1,519 mm in height, the Velite 6 squarely competes with rivals like the BYD Qin Plus EV. This newcomer joins Buick’s existing electric vehicle lineup in China, joining the ranks of the Velite 7, E4, and E5 models. Notably, the E4, introduced in June, incorporates Buick’s advanced Ultium-based technology. Boasting a more elongated profile and an extended wheelbase of 2,954 mm, the E4 offers an alluring blend of style and performance. With prices ranging from 189,900 yuan ($26,400) to 259,900 yuan ($36,100), the E4 showcases an impressive range of up to 530 km (329 mi) based on the CLTC standard.
