BP Pulse has opened a 24-bay electric vehicle charging hub at Melbourne Airport, introducing a high-capacity charging facility designed to serve passenger vehicles, commercial fleets and electric trucks. The company describes the site as Australia’s largest EV charging hub currently in operation.
Located on Airport Drive near the airport’s long-term Value Car Park, the facility operates around the clock and offers charging equipment rated at 150 kW and 300 kW. Its layout includes drive-through bays for trucks, providing access for larger vehicles alongside conventional EVs.
Charging Facilities Designed for Different Vehicle Types
The new hub is intended to accommodate a range of users, including airport visitors, rideshare drivers, fleet operators and motorists travelling through Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
In addition to its charging equipment, the site provides restrooms and complimentary Wi-Fi. Its 24-hour operating schedule also allows drivers to access charging services outside conventional business hours.
The facility is powered entirely by renewable electricity generated through Melbourne Airport’s two on-site solar farms, linking the charging operation with the airport’s existing renewable energy infrastructure.
BP Expands Its Australian Charging Network
BP said the new facility forms part of its broader strategy to develop an integrated mobility network in Australia, combining traditional fuel retailing with electric vehicle charging services.
Paul Augé, President of bp Australia, highlighted the company’s investment in expanding charging options as electric vehicle adoption increases.
“We’re building an integrated mobility network so we can support all our customers in the future,” Augé said. “With EV sales reaching record levels in Australia, we’re proud to give our customers more choice.”
He also identified EV charging as an important component of BP’s mobility and convenience strategy, serving professional drivers, fleet operators, business travellers and local communities.
BP currently operates more than 1,400 retail locations and bp pulse charging stations across Australia.
Chargefox Users Gain Access to the New Site
The Melbourne Airport installation also expands the charging network available through Chargefox. The platform confirmed that bp pulse chargers are already accessible through its application, allowing users to locate and access participating charging facilities.
The addition provides another charging option for drivers travelling to and from the airport, particularly those using electric vehicles for passenger transport and commercial operations.
Competition for Australia’s Largest Charging Hub
Although BP Pulse currently identifies the Melbourne Airport facility as Australia’s largest EV charging hub, other planned developments could eventually exceed its capacity.
BP Pulse Adds More Than 850 Charging Points to ChargeHub’s North American Roaming Network
According to Zecar, Tesla has submitted plans for a Supercharger installation with 37 charging bays in Albury. If approved and constructed, the proposed facility would have more charging bays than the Melbourne Airport site.
For now, BP Pulse’s 24-bay installation adds a major public charging location to Australia’s EV infrastructure network, with dedicated provisions for both passenger vehicles and heavier commercial transport.
