Shared mobility provider Bolt has acquired Danish ride-hailing company Viggo, marking its entry into Denmark’s ride-hailing market with a fleet of 300 electric vehicles. Previously, the Estonia-based company operated only an e-bike sharing service in Copenhagen.
With the takeover, Bolt gains access to Denmark’s two largest cities, Copenhagen and Aarhus, adding 500 professional drivers and a customer base of 450,000 users. Viggo, founded in 2019, has built a reputation for premium electric ride-hailing services, primarily using high-end EVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE.

“We are not entering Denmark as a small player—we are acquiring the best-performing taxi company in the market,” said Lars Speekenbrink, Regional General Manager Northern Europe at Bolt. “By combining Viggo’s local expertise with Bolt’s technology and scale, we will offer riders a seamless, high-quality experience while creating better earning opportunities for drivers.”
Viggo has also been investing in charging infrastructure through its subsidiary, ViggoEnergy, which operates publicly accessible fast chargers in urban areas, including a hub near Copenhagen’s main train station.

Kenneth Herschel, CEO of Viggo, welcomed the acquisition, stating, “Joining Bolt allows us to scale our impact, benefiting both drivers and passengers with new technology, increased demand, and continued commitment to quality.”
Bolt plans to integrate Viggo’s services into its broader platform, allowing users to transition seamlessly between e-bikes and electric ride-hailing. The company emphasized its long-term commitment to Denmark, promising greater competition, innovation, and sustainable mobility solutions.
