After introducing the XM Concept in November 2021, BMW has finally realized the production version of the XM with a really fresh design. In fact, the XM will be the first M model to offer a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) engine package with extraordinary performance. In addition, the XM will stand on a standalone chassis with a new code, namely G09 and available with two engine options.

Reportedly the BMW XM engine will consist of a 4.4-liter Twin-Turbo V8 that produces 486 hp with a peak torque of 650 Nm. The power and torque are transmitted to all the wheels through an 8-speed M-Steptronic automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the engine package is also supported by an electric motor integrated into the transmission and increases power to around 194 hp with a combined torque of 800 Nm.

The power source for the electric motor on the BMW XM is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh which can be charged with 2 types of AC and DC connections. On paper, the electric motor can independently bring the XM to roam 82-88 km with a top speed of 140 km/h. Even the PHEV engine package is able to make the XM accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 4.3 seconds with a maximum speed of 250 km / h.

In addition, there is another option, namely XM Red with the support of a more powerful V8 engine. Because the conventional engine is capable of producing power up to 583 hp with peak torque reaching 750 Nm. When combined with an electric motor in it, the power can shoot up to 738 hp and the torque increases to 1,000 Nm.

In addition to its enormous power, the BMW XM also has quite large dimensions with a length of more than 5 meters and a width of 2,005 mm and a height of 1,775 mm. Even the empty weight alone reaches 2,710 kg or about 2.7 tons without gasoline and oil in it. However, the BMW XM is still a vehicle that pampers its owner, one of which is the choice of driving modes consisting of Hybrid, Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus.

Meanwhile, to use pure electric power, the driver simply activates the EV or eControl button for normal driving in the city. There is also a driving mode for tougher terrain, namely M xDrive which consists of 4WD, 4WD Sport and 4WD Sand.

Unlike other X models, this XM PHEV will offer a slightly controversial design language, one of which is the appearance of a very large kidney grille. There is also a large air hole flanked by the main light with Adaptive LED technology as in the X7 and 7 series. While other parts look very sporty including the carved stern display with 3-dimensional L-shaped taillights and dual exhausts that are piled up with a large size.

“The design of the BMW XM is an expression of BMW M in the most important part of the luxury vehicle segment. It has a very unique identity and embodies an expressive lifestyle like no other model in the BMW line-up,” said Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design BMW.

Turning to the inside, BMW will present a curved screen consisting of a 12.3-inch meter cluster screen and a 14.9-inch entertainment screen in the center of the dashboard. It includes the most up-to-date operating system with various menus such as a music player to wireless services to smartphones.

In terms of safety features, the BMW XM will present standard devices consisting of Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Return with Steering Assistance, Evasion Assistant, Alertness Assistant and Speed Limit info. If this menu is deemed lacking, you can increase it with several additions such as Active Cruise Control, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, automatic Speed Limit Assist, route monitoring, traffic light recognition and Active Navigation, Emergency Lane and Emergency Stop Assistant, Lane Change Assistant, Crossing Traffic Warning to Parking Assistant Plus.

The manufacturer has decided to start production of the BMW XM in December 2022 at the BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, USA. Considering the US is one of the important markets for the growth of the XM model followed by the Middle East and China. However, there is no official information about the price that will be priced for the very powerful XM and XM Red.
