BMW plans to expand the range of exterior colors available for its iX3 electric SUV, with special Individual hues set to be offered from the middle of next year.

The model currently launches with a limited palette dominated by black, white, grey and silver, alongside a small selection of shades including Ocean Wave Blue, Fire Red and Eucalyptus Green.

The German automaker confirmed that its Debrecen plant in Hungary was equipped from the outset to support Individual colors. The facility’s paint shop, spanning 33,000 square meters across three stories, is the first in the BMW Group to operate without fossil fuels.

It uses dry separation with limestone powder to capture overspray, cutting water consumption and energy demand by recycling 90% of air used in the booth. Residual powder is reused in the cement industry.

Series production of the iX3 will begin in November at Debrecen, following over a year of trial runs with iX1 bodies and iX3 prototypes. The plant, built with an investment of more than €2 billion, has an annual capacity of 150,000 units and can spray up to 30 vehicles per hour in a fully automated process.

While production for the U.S. market will initially come from Hungary, BMW said assembly of the iX3 will also begin at its San Luis Potosí factory in Mexico from 2027.
