BMW M has revealed the Concept Neue Klasse at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, offering the clearest preview yet of the brand’s future all-electric high-performance vehicles and hinting at what could become the next-generation electric M3.
The concept combines BMW M’s upcoming design language with the advanced electric drivetrain technology already announced for the Neue Klasse platform, which will underpin a new generation of battery-electric models beginning later this decade.
Although BMW stopped short of officially identifying the vehicle as an electric M3, the concept closely aligns with the Neue Klasse-based electric sedan expected to join the lineup in the coming years.
Four-Motor Electric Performance System
At the heart of the Concept Neue Klasse is BMW M’s next-generation electric performance architecture, featuring four electric motors — one dedicated to each wheel.
The system is managed by BMW’s M Dynamic Performance Control software running on the company’s high-performance computing platform known as the “Heart of Joy.”
According to BMW, the technology enables wheel-specific control of both power delivery and braking, providing enhanced traction, more precise handling characteristics and improved energy recuperation.
The automaker said the system is designed to deliver immediate responses and maintain performance even under demanding driving conditions, though specific power and torque figures have not yet been disclosed.
High-Performance Battery Technology
BMW also confirmed that future electric M models will receive a performance-focused version of its sixth-generation battery technology.
The company said the vehicles will use specially optimized cylindrical battery cells designed to provide higher power output for both acceleration and fast charging.
While detailed specifications remain undisclosed, BMW has previously confirmed that Neue Klasse vehicles will feature an 800-volt electrical architecture and battery capacities exceeding 100 kWh, supporting both high-performance driving and long-distance travel.
Motorsport-Inspired Design
The concept introduces a more aggressive interpretation of the Neue Klasse design language, with wider wheel arches, muscular bodywork and numerous aerodynamic enhancements.
Key styling elements include redesigned M Aero mirrors, a prominent front splitter, a bonnet air vent integrated into the V-shaped front section, a floating rear diffuser and a ducktail rear spoiler.
BMW also introduced a new signature lighting element called “M Yellow Lights,” inspired by the company’s GT racing cars and the BMW M Hybrid V8 endurance racer.
Three-dimensional Track Lights have also been incorporated into the front and rear bumpers to further reinforce the motorsport connection.
Sustainable Materials Meet Performance
BMW highlighted the use of natural-fibre materials throughout the concept, both inside and out.
These lightweight materials are featured on components including the front splitter, air vent and diffuser. The roof graphic also incorporates natural fibre material for the first time, integrated with BMW M branding.
The concept is finished in a new “Monza Red metallic” paint scheme and rides on center-lock wheels featuring red-and-blue accents inspired by BMW M’s racing heritage.
New Era for BMW M
BMW says the Concept Neue Klasse represents the beginning of a new chapter for its performance division as it transitions into the electric era.
“The new BMW M design language forms the expressive spearhead of the Neue Klasse – determined and purposeful,” said Oliver Heilmer, Head of Design for BMW Compact Class, Neue Klasse and BMW M.
“At BMW M, form consistently follows function. Every detail serves performance.”
BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel emphasized the brand’s continued focus on transferring technologies from motorsport into production vehicles.
“Even in the new all-electric era, we continue the M-typical tradition of transferring both technological innovations and defining design features directly from motorsport into series production.”
BMW plans to begin introducing Neue Klasse-based electric M models from 2027, with the Concept Neue Klasse providing an early look at how the performance brand intends to combine electrification, advanced software control and motorsport-inspired engineering in its future vehicles.
