BMW Korea has announced the completion of its ‘Charging Next’ project, significantly expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging network across South Korea. As of December 2024, the automaker has successfully installed 2,125 EV chargers nationwide, marking a major milestone in its commitment to supporting the growth of electric mobility.
The initiative, which began in 2023, aimed to accelerate the development of charging infrastructure to meet the growing demand from EV drivers. BMW Korea had previously built a network of 500 chargers by 2021, doubling that number to 1,000 by 2023. With over 1,000 additional chargers installed in 2024, the ‘Charging Next’ project has more than doubled the available infrastructure within two years.
Looking ahead, BMW Korea plans to enhance the user experience at its charging stations. Key initiatives include the introduction of the ‘BMW Charging Hub Lounge,’ offering premium amenities for drivers while their vehicles charge, and the implementation of the ‘Plug & Charge’ service, which streamlines the charging process by automating payment and authentication.
BMW’s efforts in South Korea are part of its broader strategy to support EV adoption globally. In China, the automaker partnered with Mercedes-Benz in early 2024 to develop a new charging network through a joint venture. In Mexico, BMW collaborated with Evergo in 2023 to expand charging infrastructure, while partnerships with Electrify America have bolstered its presence in the United States.
By summer 2021, BMW’s global charging network included 4,350 charging points. The automaker continues to expand this footprint, investing in strategic markets to support the transition to sustainable mobility.
