BMW Group said on Friday that its electric vehicle (EV) deliveries in India have surpassed 5,000 units, making it the first luxury carmaker in the country to reach the milestone.
To mark the achievement, the German automaker has set up a high-power charging corridor covering 4,000 kilometres from India’s north to south. The corridor, developed in partnership with charging operators Statiq and Zeon, will offer stations with capacities ranging from 120 to 720 kilowatts every 300 kilometres along key routes.
BMW has been the top-selling luxury EV brand in India for three consecutive years since 2022. The company maintained its lead in the first half of 2025 with sales of 1,322 BMW and MINI EVs, which now contribute 18% of its total sales.
BMW entered India’s EV market in December 2021 with the launch of the BMW iX SUV, which sold out on its first day. The model has since become the country’s highest-selling luxury electric SUV for three years running, with over 1,100 units delivered by January 2025.
The automaker has steadily expanded its EV line-up, introducing the MINI Cooper SE and BMW i4 in 2022, followed by the BMW i7 luxury sedan in 2023. It later launched the BMW iX1, the i5 sedan, and electric MINI models, along with its first two-wheelers – the BMW CE 02 and CE 04.
In January 2025, BMW began local assembly of the long-wheelbase BMW iX1, replacing the fully imported version. The shift reduced costs and allowed the compact SUV to be priced below its internal combustion equivalent, boosting demand. The iX1 has since overtaken the iX to become BMW’s best-selling EV in India.
