Spanish supermarket chain BM Supermercados has partnered with charging network operator Zunder to deploy electric vehicle charging stations at its stores, with 133 charging points already operational across 33 locations.
The installations are located in supermarket car parks in the regions of Madrid, the Basque Country and Cantabria, focusing on so-called destination charging that allows customers to recharge vehicles while shopping.
Zunder has installed a mix of alternating current (AC) chargers for longer stays and direct current (DC) chargers for faster top-ups. The combination is intended to accommodate both quick visits and longer shopping trips, aligning charging availability with customer behavior.
“This agreement with BM is a clear example of how collaboration with the retail sector allows us to continue bringing ultra-fast charging to everyday environments and facilitate real, accessible electric mobility adapted to users’ habits,” Zunder Chief Executive Daniel Pérez said.
The partnership also supports Zunder’s strategy to expand its network in high-traffic commercial areas, integrating charging services into daily routines and improving convenience for electric vehicle drivers.
Founded in Spain in 2017, Zunder focuses on building a reliable fast-charging network, particularly in regions underserved by larger operators. The company received a €100 million investment from French sustainability investor Mirova in 2022 to accelerate expansion across Southern Europe. By the end of 2024, Zunder had opened its largest fast-charging hub in Oviedo, featuring 36 high-power charging connectors.
