UK electric vehicle charging network Be.EV has partnered with AAAZ Investments to install two ultra-rapid charging bays at a site on Livesey Branch Road in Blackburn, which houses a Tesco Express store, the companies said on Monday.
The installation represents a £223,000 investment by Be.EV and features 150kW Kempower chargers capable of delivering up to 80% charge in 20 minutes. The site is located around 10 minutes from the M65 motorway, a key route with an average daily traffic flow of over 69,000 vehicles.
“We’re very happy that AAAZ Investments have put their trust in us to deliver this solution at this site on Livesey Branch Road,” said Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV. “As the EV transition continues to build momentum, asset managers with shops will need to incorporate solutions that fit shoppers’ lifestyles if they want people to visit their stores, and ultra-rapid charging is the way to do this.”
The site is expected to benefit both local residents and EV drivers in transit who seek quick access to charging infrastructure. According to Be.EV, the presence of ultra-rapid chargers can add approximately £4,000 in additional annual rental income for property owners at high-traffic locations.
“EV charging has become much more of a priority for us as more EVs hit the road,” said a spokesperson from AAAZ Investments. “It was important for us to work with an experienced partner who could advise us on getting the right chargers and make everything as simple as possible, which is exactly what Be.EV has done.”
The announcement follows recent UK government moves to accelerate EV adoption, including subsidies of up to £3,250 for new electric vehicle purchases. Lancashire County Council estimates that about 6,645 chargepoints will be needed across the county by 2030 to support an expected 240,000 EVs.
