Baojun, a Chinese automaker, has revealed the exterior design of their upcoming electric vehicle (EV), named “Yep.” The off-road-style EV will make its official debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in April, with a market launch in China expected in May.
Initially teased as a concept model with Kiwi branding, Baojun has decided to proceed with their own badge in the final production model. The EV’s name in Chinese is “悦也” (YueYe), which translates to “Yep” in English.

Taking design cues from its concept predecessor, the Yep boasts off-roader proportions, complete with a high ground clearance, pronounced fenders, black-painted bumpers, integrated skid plates, and roof rails. Modern LED lighting units on both ends and a tiny bump on the side-hinged tailgate, inspired by a spare wheel cover, add to its charm.
Despite its rugged appearance, the Yep is a diminutive vehicle, measuring just 3,381 mm long, 1,685 mm wide, and 1,721 mm tall. To put its size into perspective, it’s up to 214 mm shorter than the global specification for the ICE-powered Suzuki Jimny, with nearly identical width and height figures.

Baojun has yet to make an official announcement about the specs, details have emerged through filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Technology. The Yep will feature a single electric motor, capable of generating 67 hp (50 kW / 68 PS) and 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) of torque, with power being sent to the rear axle for a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).
An even more powerful variant with dual electric motors and AWD is expected to launch in the future, increasing the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. When it comes to range, the lithium iron phosphate battery is capable of achieving 303 km (188 miles) under the CLTC protocol.

As more information about the Baojun Yep becomes available in the upcoming months, pricing will be a crucial factor in its commercial success. However, judging from the popularity of the Wuling Mini EV, which was also produced by the same company, it is highly likely that the Baojun Yep will pique the interest of many customers.
