Ballard Power Systems has signed an agreement to supply Egyptian bus manufacturer Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles (MCV) with 50 FCmove-HD+ fuel cell modules for delivery in 2025 and 2026, the Canadian company said.
The fuel cell engines are expected to support public transit projects in the European Union, Ballard said in a statement. The agreement builds on a previous order of 35 units placed in 2023, which the company described as part of “the continued growth of the relationship with MCV which started in 2022 with fuel cell engine integration support.”

Ballard and MCV did not disclose the specific customers or locations for the hydrogen-powered buses. MCV is known in Europe for its partnership with Volvo and its development of the C127 EV electric city bus.
“We are delighted with this order and the continued engagement with MCV,” said Oben Uluc, Vice President of Europe Sales & Marketing at Ballard. “In 2024 we took in 1,600 bus engines orders across 7 OEMs, and this agreement continues the momentum into 2025.”

Ballard said demand for hydrogen fuel cell buses is growing as transit operators seek to decarbonize fleets. “As the fuel cell bus market continues to mature, we look forward to the use of Ballard fuel cell engines to decarbonize public transit across the globe,” Uluc added.
