As the Chinese electric car market continues to flourish, Avatr, the subsidiary brand formed through a partnership between Changan, Huawei, and CATL, has recently made headlines with the announcement of its second model. The eagerly anticipated electric sedan, known as the Avatr 12, has successfully passed regulatory processes, signaling its imminent entry into the market later this year.
According to information from the registration application submitted to the Chinese authorities, the Avatr 12 stands out as a five-meter-long electric sedan. Customers will have the option to choose between a single-engine version, boasting an impressive 230 kW of power, or a four-wheel-drive variant that comes equipped with an additional 195 kW engine. The vehicle is built on the EP1 platform, the same platform used for the Avatr 11, as the brand aims to establish a foothold in the high-end Chinese electric vehicle market, competing with notable contenders like the Nio ET7 and Zeekr 001.
The Avatr 12’s drive system will be sourced from Huawei, a well-known player in the tech industry. On the other hand, CATL will provide the cutting-edge NMC batteries for the electric sedan. CarNewsChina reports that the engines in the Avatr 12 will be akin to those used in the Avatr 11 SUV model, and potential buyers can expect the same battery options with capacities of 90.4 kWh and 116.8 kWh.
Founded in 2021 as a collaboration between Nio and Changan, Avatr was later joined by CATL towards the end of the same year. This partnership reflects a shared vision to advance the electric mobility sector in China and beyond.
With its entry into China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) model catalogue, which recently solicited public feedback from July 14 to July 20, the Avatr 12 has successfully cleared a significant regulatory milestone on its path to market launch. This achievement signals a positive outlook for the upcoming electric sedan, making it one to watch in the competitive electric vehicle landscape.
As the debut of Avatr’s new electric sedan draws near, industry enthusiasts and consumers alike eagerly await further details on pricing, features, and availability. The electric mobility space in China continues to evolve rapidly, and the Avatr 12’s entry promises to add excitement and diversity to an already dynamic market.
