Although pricing details were not disclosed, Xpeng confirmed the vehicle would officially launch later this month. Show cars are already available in Xpeng showrooms, and customers can place a RMB 99 ($13.75) reservation to receive a RMB 3,000 ($415) discount upon final purchase. Within just over…
EV charging provider ezVOLTz has joined forces with Driivz, the EV software arm of Vontier, to strengthen the performance and reliability of its “Charging as a Service” platform, targeting fleets, businesses, and state and local governments across the United States. The partnership will integrate Driivz’s charging and energy management technologies into ezVOLTz’s backend platform, ezCONNECT, enabling 24/7 monitoring, real-time issue detection, and automated fixes for common faults. According to Driivz, its Alert Management System can resolve up to 80% of charger issues remotely, reducing the need for on-site maintenance and increasing network uptime. “EV adoption is surging, and drivers and…
BMW has issued a new recall in the United States for 136 of its electric vehicles, citing concerns over battery cell modules that may have been improperly assembled, potentially leading to power loss or increased fire risk. The latest recall follows another notice issued less than a month ago involving more than 70,000 EVs with software-related high-voltage system shutdowns. In the current case, BMW identified a problem in the manufacturing process where the compression force used to assemble battery cells into modules may have exceeded design specifications. The automaker said that over time, particularly with repeated charging cycles, this could…
San Francisco has secured a $5 million grant from the California Energy Commission to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, which will be matched by $2.8 million in city funding. The combined $7.8 million investment will support the installation of 403 new EV chargers dedicated to the city’s municipal fleet. The chargers will be deployed at 36 publicly owned facilities and are expected to power up to 800 additional light-duty EVs—covering 40 per cent of San Francisco’s non-public safety light-duty fleet. This infrastructure push is part of the city’s broader plan to reach net-zero emissions and achieve an all-electric…
A new EU-funded study has found that developing just a few low-risk rare earth deposits globally could significantly reduce Europe’s dependency on imports, bolstering the continent’s supply chain resilience for electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies. The research, part of the EU- and UKRI-backed REEsilience project, assessed 149 global rare earth deposits and evaluated them using environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. The study identified low-risk, high-potential sources in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Canada, Australia, and Greenland. These findings come amid growing concern over Europe’s dependence on China, which dominates the rare earth market and has recently imposed…
BMW Group is introducing a new type of electrical steel from Austrian manufacturer Voestalpine into the e-motors of its upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup, the companies announced on Wednesday. The partnership, based in Upper Austria, will see Voestalpine’s steel product manufactured in Linz and sent to BMW’s Steyr plant for further processing and integration into electric motors. Steyr, BMW’s largest engine facility, is responsible for producing the sixth-generation e-drives designed for the Neue Klasse models. These motors, developed for an 800-volt platform, are expected to improve performance and efficiency over the current generation, reducing energy losses by up to…
UK-based clean transport technology company KleanDrive has entered a partnership with logistics firm Welch Group to convert diesel-powered Renault D-Series 18-tonne rigid heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to fully electric drivetrains. The conversions will use KleanDrive’s modular plug-and-play electric system, with Welch Group overseeing installation and optional refurbishment of vehicle components. The system is designed to reduce operating costs and emissions while extending the service life of the vehicle. KleanDrive’s electric conversion solution features a 352 kWh usable battery, using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells supplied by CATL, and integrates a Voith Electrical Drive System. The technology is mounted in a…
U.S. electric vehicle (EV) sales hit a record high for the first half of 2025, with 607,089 new battery electric vehicles registered, up 1.5% from the same period a year earlier, according to data from Kelley Blue Book. The increase was driven by strong first-quarter results, despite a year-on-year decline in second-quarter deliveries. Sales in the second quarter totaled 310,839 units, down 6.3% from Q2 2024. Analysts attribute the decline to consumer hesitation amid uncertainty over the federal EV tax credit, which is set to expire earlier than expected at the end of September. Industry observers expect a spike in…
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued Wells Notices to Faraday Future founder Jia Yueting and president Jerry Wang, signaling the agency may soon pursue enforcement actions after a three-year investigation into potential securities fraud linked to the company’s 2021 SPAC merger. In a regulatory filing published Wednesday, Faraday Future disclosed the notices, which indicate that the SEC’s enforcement staff has recommended actions against the electric vehicle startup, Jia, Wang, and two unnamed former employees. The SEC’s focus centers on alleged false or misleading disclosures made during the company’s merger with a special purpose acquisition company, which enabled…
