Symbio, the fuel cell joint venture backed by Forvia, Michelin, and Stellantis, has introduced its StackPack 75 hydrogen fuel cell system at the H2 & FC Expo in Tokyo, Japan. Designed for electric commercial vehicles and construction equipment, the system aims to enhance vehicle integration and efficiency. The StackPack 75 delivers 75 kW of power and operates at a high temperature of 85 degrees Celsius, improving heat dissipation and reducing cooling system requirements. Italian automotive firm Aznom has introduced an electric conversion for the first-generation Smart Fortwo, reviving the discontinued model as a lightweight EV tailored for young drivers. Produced between 1998 and 2007, the original Smart Fortwo is now a rare sight on roads. Aznom’s retrofit package transforms petrol-powered units into electric vehicles classified as L6e or L7e, which are legally drivable from the age of 15 or 16. Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has disclosed specifications for its upcoming fuel cell module, slated for mass production in 2027. Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian Automotive has projected a decline in vehicle deliveries for the current year, citing economic uncertainties and shifting consumer preferences. Despite this, the company anticipates achieving a modest gross profit, attributed to reductions in raw material and supply chain costs. Toyota Motor Corp has agreed to transfer a $1.5 billion battery order to LG Energy Solution’s Michigan facility, following General Motors Co’s decision to exit the project. This move aims to bolster operations at the plant located in Lansing, Michigan. In December 2024, GM announced plans to sell its stake in the nearly completed Ultium Cells LLC battery cell plant to its joint venture partner, LG Energy Solution. Ionity and restaurant chain L’Osteria have announced a strategic partnership to expand fast-charging infrastructure at dining locations. Ionity will install high-power chargers (HPC) at 15 L’Osteria sites across Germany and Austria by mid-2025, with several locations already operational. Renault has announced that its ‘Fireman Access’ system, designed to help first responders tackle electric vehicle battery fires more efficiently, is now “freely available” to the wider automotive industry.
