China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales reached a new monthly high in December, extending a record run even as growth momentum moderated and battery-electric vehicle sales softened from the previous month, industry data showed. Passenger NEV retail sales totalled 1.337 million units in December, surpassing the prior record of 1.321 million units set in November, according to figures released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng said it will roll out updated versions of its G6 and G9 sport utility vehicles at a launch event on January 8, broadening the deployment of its in-house autonomous driving technology. Chinese automaker Geely has introduced its next-generation assisted driving system, G-ASD, positioning the platform as ready for Level 3 automated driving and outlining plans to expand higher-level functions as early as this year. Tesla recorded a second consecutive month of year-on-year growth in China-made vehicle sales in December, extending a late-year rebound after most of 2025 was marked by declining volumes. Nio said it will expand the availability of long-range battery packs across its battery swap network this month, as strong vehicle deliveries and rising demand continue to put pressure on its infrastructure.
