Milan’s public transport operator ATM has issued a tender worth more than €100 million for the supply of 110 electric buses, including a long-term maintenance contract as part of its ongoing fleet electrification strategy.
The tender is divided into two vehicle categories. The larger share comprises 80 twelve-metre low-floor city buses with three doors, while the remaining 30 units are twelve-metre low-floor intercity buses configured with two doors.
The procurement process opened on March 30 and will close on May 18. ATM plans to begin reviewing submissions on May 20, followed by a detailed evaluation of technical and financial proposals.
The tender includes a full-service maintenance agreement lasting ten years, scheduled to begin on December 31, 2026, and run until December 30, 2037. The contract includes an option to extend for an additional five years. Delivery of the 110 electric buses is expected to be completed within 48 months.
ATM has been steadily expanding its electric fleet in recent years. In late 2022, the operator launched a separate tender for 340 electric buses, with Iveco Bus and Solaris selected as suppliers in 2023.
The latest tender aligns with ATM’s broader objective to transition its entire bus fleet to electric propulsion by 2030, with plans to deploy more than 1,200 electric buses across the city.
The move reflects continued efforts by European cities to reduce emissions from public transport and accelerate the adoption of zero-emission mobility solutions.
